Few inland boat builders were better suited to creating replica Dutch barges than French & Peel. The company continued shipbuilding practices, so that craft were built on ring frames; and Dunvegan has a vee-shaped hull rather than a flat bottom, which was grit blasted in 2001, with regular blackings in Comastic since. For those low bridges, and high summer days, the iroko upper wheel house is nicely demountable. The craft has nicely balanced lines, with aft cabin, providing comfortable accommodation for two couples. The powerful 67hp Perkins/Sabre diesel engine, aided by a Vetus bow thruster, has proved ideally suited for the owners extensive cruising of continental Europe waterways, including France, Germany, Holland and Belgium.
