Conveyancing

About Our Service

Professional, independent support for private boat sales

Buying or selling a boat privately can be exciting, but the paperwork and process can quickly become complex. ABNB’s conveyancing service is designed to guide you through every stage with clarity and confidence, helping both buyer and seller complete the transaction smoothly and securely.

We provide a structured, impartial service that covers key areas such as title documentation, Recreational Craft Directive (RCD/RCR) compliance, and VAT status, ensuring nothing important is overlooked.

Protecting funds

All monies are held in a secure, designated client account. Deposits and balances are only released once you confirm you wish to proceed. On completion, funds are transferred promptly to the seller with a full invoice issued. Where marine finance is involved, we liaise directly with the lender.

Handling the paperwork

From offer acceptance through to completion, we manage the full process. This includes providing Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents (ABYA) approved legal contracts for both parties, along with a formal bill of sale to transfer ownership correctly.

Managing communication

We act as a point of contact between buyer, seller & any third parties involved. By keeping communication clear, consistent, and moving forward, we help avoid delays, reduce misunderstandings, and keep the transaction progressing smoothly.

Checking title

Then, we verify that the seller is the rightful owner by reviewing title documents, highlighting any gaps, and advising on what should be obtained before proceeding with the sale.

Reviewing RCD/RCR compliance

For boats built after June 1998, we assess the available Recreational Craft Directive (or Regulations) documentation to ensure compliance.

Meeting Anti-Money Laundering requirements

We carry out all necessary ID checks, including photographic identification and proof of address, in line with regulatory requirements.

Who is this service for?

Our conveyancing service can be used by either the buyer or the seller in a private boat sale.

  • The instructing party becomes our client and is responsible for the fees
  • If both parties wish to benefit, we can still facilitate the process
  • However, we act formally for one party only
  • The other party will confirm they understand we are not representing them, but providing an impartial administrative service.

For more complex transactions, such as leased moorings, disputes, or vessels with finance or liens, we may recommend seeking independent legal advice.
