An enthusiasts boat, Chiswick is one of a limited number of ex-working narrowboats that are highly sought after. Originally built in 1937 for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Co, by Harland & Wolff (the same company that built the Titanic!), she has been in private, nationalised and commercial ownership. Chiswick has a powerful Lister JP2 engine well suited to the job. Split into original and modern, the aft section boasts a true Boatmans cabin and engine room, whilst the internal forward section could be mistaken for a modern boat fit-out if it was not for the sloping cabin section. This section is covered by traditional external cloths, along with a large hold area, to replicate the original lines. This unique boat, with lots of history, has home comforts including a mid cabin with sofa bed, usual gas cooking facilities, diesel fired central heating and stove, with the Boatmans cabin kept warm with a traditional cooking range. Chiswick is not all glitz and glamour, she is the real thing and needs a real boater to enjoy her and make the most of her potential.
