Carapace includes a specification to suit many residential requirements, plus a little extra. The 440Ah of batteries, cleverly charged by both alternators (totalling a whopping 160A of charge), supports the 1.8kW inverter for everyday 230V needs, with a 3.5kW generator to power the washer that is nicely installed in the shower room. The cross double arrangement gives that little extra width for comfortable sleeping (either along the boat or across), but is such that it could be used as a conventional permanent double if so desired. Heating is by economical compact diesel boiler to radiators with a diesel stove for added warmth. What s more, the 3 x 72W solar panels provide additional charging for the batteries reducing the need to run the engine. Plus, permanently installed heaters near the water pump and calorifier, linked to frost stats, give piece of mind and remove the need to winterise if you have a landline connection.
